Thermaltake|TOUGHRAM Gen2 Memory Concept

Thermaltake first specialized in air cooling, and is the pioneer amongst the PC DIY market. They came to us looking for a new product outlook for their TOUGHRAM line, which is built with high-quality components. The TOUGHRAM RGB D5 Black features a unique design and 8 LEDs for a more dynamic lighting experience, providing high gaming performance with vivid RGB colors.

The Design process

Through intensive brainstorming session of TOUGHRAM's second generation line , we delivered various concepts with distinctive visual characteristics aiming at different design styles for the client to decide on. Although the final decision was to retain the original design language from the first generation, but to focus on the finishing outlook of Gen2, this process brought about many interesting ideas which ThermalTake was amazed by.

Designing a Sleek yet Eye-catching Appearance

Their Gen1 trademark design language  which features two T-shapes (Thermaltake's logo) is preserved however we coated the overall with black brushed aluminum finishing, delivering both an eye-catching appearance and outstanding gaming performance with stunning RGB lighting maximized for effortless sync with your RGB ecosystem.

Challenges of Multiple Materials for it's illumination

Managing the Gen2 multiple material design was rather tricky. The thin layer of mirror coating that coasts the surface of the inner diffuser has to be thin enough to present a highly reflective mirror effect. Yet, it cannot be too thin that when the system lights are switched on, the light beams are unable to pass through the coating layer eliminating the unique luminous effect. On the semi-translucent outter diffuser, we applied a layer of light guiding ink on its surface for more gradation of its overall outlook.

Different CMF Proposals

By playing with different CMF (Color, Material, Finish) plannings for TOUGHRAM Gen2's body, we applied different surface patterns such as Brushed metal, High polished & Diamond Knurls to present the various styles of feelings.
